Addressing the national level conference of Urban Local Bodies on Thursday, Birla emphasized the urgency of changing past practices to ensure the effective functioning of Parliament.

“It Is Time for Change,” Says Birla

“It is time for change. If we have to strengthen democracy and hold democratic institutions accountable, we have to ensure that the Houses function in a proper manner,” Birla stated. His appeal underscores the critical link between orderly parliamentary conduct and the health of the nation’s democracy.

Warning to Disruptive Parties

Birla cautioned political parties that resorting to disruptions could have electoral consequences. He remarked that “people would teach a lesson to political parties that resort to disruption of the House proceedings.” This serves as a stern reminder of the electorate’s power to hold representatives accountable.

Progress in Reducing Disruptions

Noting a positive trend, Birla highlighted that there has been some reduction in disruptions during the 18th Lok Sabha, which held its first sitting in June last year. He commended the efforts made and encouraged all parties to continue fostering a more productive parliamentary environment.
