Bringing Overcooked’s Kitchen Chaos to Netflix
A24, known for its unique and innovative productions, is bringing Overcooked—a 2016 cooking simulation game from Ghost Town Games—to Netflix as a reality show. According to reports, the new series hopes to evoke the family appeal of existing Netflix hits such as Nailed It! and Floor Is Lava.
The Frenetic Gameplay
In the Overcooked video game, players scramble to prepare meal orders under intense time constraints and in cramped quarters. Each level poses fresh challenges, sometimes with the environment working against players, from crumbling platforms to moving trucks. This hectic pace and sense of impending disaster translate naturally into a high-stakes, real-life cooking contest.
Fan Excitement
Reddit users on r/television have voiced their enthusiasm for replicating the game’s chaotic elements. One commenter wrote, “If they’re not cooking on a truck flatbed and throwing steaks to another group on another truck… I won’t be surprised, but I will be disappointed.” Another user added, “If they are able to add moving blocks and all the other gimmicks from the game, then this might become the best cooking show.”
The Game’s Award-Winning Legacy
Overcooked is no stranger to recognition: it received Best British Game and Best Family Game honors during the 13th British Game Awards. This track record speaks to its ability to engage both serious players and casual family audiences—precisely the crowd Netflix and A24 hope to captivate with the upcoming series.
Looking Ahead
While it remains to be seen exactly how Netflix will stage Overcooked’s signature chaos in a real-world kitchen, anticipation is high. Fans are confident that, if the series captures the same frantic energy that made the game famous, Overcooked will serve up a uniquely entertaining spin on culinary reality TV.
