Rookies Tylan Grable, Javon Solomon eager for first extended NFL action in Bills regular-season finale

After months on the sidelines due to injuries, Buffalo Bills rookies Tylan Grable and Javon Solomon are poised to make their mark as they step into the spotlight for the regular-season finale.

Key Takeaways:

  • Offensive tackle Tylan Grable returns after an 11-week injury hiatus.
  • Defensive end Javon Solomon anticipates significant playing time.
  • The Bills are resting starters, allowing rookies to play.
  • Both rookies overcame setbacks and are eager to contribute.
  • Grable and Solomon have shown potential in limited opportunities.

As the Buffalo Bills prepare to conclude their regular season, two rookies are ready to seize a long-awaited opportunity.

A Challenging Start for Grable

Tylan Grable’s NFL journey took an unexpected turn when a routine pivot resulted in a torn groin during his third game. “I could feel it tear,” Grable recalled. Determined not to leave the field, he attempted to play through the pain but eventually had to step out. Days later, he was placed on injured reserve.

Placed on injured reserve for 11 weeks, Grable faced the emotional and physical challenges of rehab. “Not only was I trying to reconcile with my injury, but I was around the team often,” he said. The initial weeks were tough, but support from the Bills’ trainers and coaches helped him trust the recovery plan.

Drawing Inspiration and Climbing Back

Grable found motivation in his favorite athlete, Kevin Durant, who returned strong after an Achilles tendon injury. “When that happened, I knew no injury could hold me back,” Grable reflected. Before his injury, Grable had quickly ascended the depth chart, becoming the team’s No. 3 offensive tackle by Week 1, a notable feat for a sixth-round draft pick.

Now activated and ready, Grable is eager to contribute. “I’m just excited for the whole thing,” he expressed. “I’m just ready to be out there with the guys and actually be on the field.”

Solomon’s Patience Pays Off

Defensive end Javon Solomon also faced early setbacks, battling injuries that sidelined him for the first two games. Despite other players’ injuries creating potential openings, Solomon found himself with limited defensive snaps. “It’s just the flow of the NFL,” Solomon said. “Sometimes we need numbers here, sometimes there… But being part of one of the best teams in the NFL is a privilege.”

In the snaps he did receive, Solomon made them count. He recorded a strip-sack against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3 and another sack against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8. A consistent special teams player, he’s now poised for his first major action on defense.

Eager for Opportunity

As the Bills rest their starters, having secured the AFC East championship and the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, both rookies are set to see extended playing time. Solomon remains confident in his abilities. “When you understand what you bring to the table… there’s never any doubting yourself,” he stated. “Once you keep that constant faith in yourself… there’s nothing that can sway your mindset.”

Looking Ahead

Both Grable and Solomon embody resilience and readiness, qualities that could prove invaluable as the Bills head into the postseason. Their perseverance amid adversity underscores the depth of talent within the team. With their first significant NFL action on the horizon, the rookies are prepared to step from the sidelines into the spotlight, eager to contribute to their team’s success.
