Mount Desert Island offers scenic vistas and rugged trails, but it also has an unexpectedly common injury for summertime explorers. Known as “Acadia ankle,” these sprains and twists make up over half the rescues handled by a volunteer team assisting Acadia National Park rangers.

In a bid to confront the realities of climate change, Acadia National Park is undertaking its largest-ever restoration project at the Great Meadow. The 116-acre wetland, situated near Bar Harbor’s Park Loop Road, stands at the forefront of the park’s environmental stewardship efforts.

As the federal government shutdown unfolds, Acadia National Park has scaled back to essential services only. While the long-term impact remains unknown, officials stress that these measures safeguard both the park and its visitors.

In an effort to tackle overcrowding, Acadia National Park officials are considering a reservation system for a popular attraction, focusing on parking availability to enhance visitor experience.
