The US Navy’s newest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, has docked in Crete after a fire onboard. Though the Navy first minimized the incident, damage to key areas, including crew quarters and laundry facilities, prompted the carrier’s return to port.

In a move confirmed by a person familiar with the plans, the United States is sending its second aircraft carrier to the Middle East. The deployment brings the world’s largest carrier into the region to support another already in place.
