China has been scrutinizing Australia’s handling of the strategically significant Darwin Port. Despite Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s pledge to bring the port back under Australian control after his government’s landslide re-election in May, there has been only limited progress on the port’s status.

China and Australia have signed a memorandum of understanding to implement and review their existing Free Trade Agreement, as announced by China’s commerce ministry. This development marks a significant step in the ongoing trade relations between the two nations.
