A boating trip turned dire when a man fell off his vessel and into Newburyport waters. Authorities say he remains in critical condition after responders rushed to provide lifesaving care Tuesday afternoon.

A ship stationed at the Port of Long Beach lost approximately 75 cargo containers into the water on Tuesday morning, leading to a reported light oil sheen, waterlogged cargo, and a sprained ankle. The U.S. Coast Guard responded to the mishap, which also involved a damaged boat.

A disabled boat off Georgia’s Ossabaw Island received prompt help from the U.S. Coast Guard Station Tybee on Tuesday night. Assisted by a helicopter crew from Air Station Savannah, a rescue swimmer was deployed to assess and stabilize the situation.
