In 1911, a Curtiss biplane crash in Pittsfield left its pilot seriously injured and onlookers wary of the new technology. In the years that followed, aviation pioneers Clarence Bousquet and Earl Ferry guided the city from that mishap toward the creation of a thriving municipal airport.
