Parents and child-safety advocates have long been wary of too much technology in young children’s lives. Now, new research from Southern Methodist University suggests that spending more time in front of screens may be linked to smaller vocabularies in early childhood. These findings bring renewed attention to how digital exposure shapes language development.

Keokuk Christian Academy will hold its annual Kindergarten Round-Up on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 8:30–11:15 a.m. Families with children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2026 are invited to learn about the academy’s offerings. Eligible attendees must be five years old on or before September.

Local families now have free access to Lantern, a digital parenting support platform backed by the Family Resource Center. This tool offers parents and caregivers easy-to-use guidance to nurture children’s growth from birth through the early stages of development.
