U.S. District Judge Karin J. Immergut has halted President Donald Trump’s proposed plan to send federal troops to Portland. The ruling, delivered on Saturday, places a significant legal obstacle in the administration’s efforts in Oregon.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has denounced the Trump administration’s deployment of armed Border Patrol and immigration officers in Chicago and other parts of the state. Calling it an “attack on Americans,” he expressed deep concern over the presence of masked agents at a news conference Monday.

President Donald Trump, who previously used the National Guard in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., appears to be rethinking a similar deployment to Chicago. His decision follows comments made Friday, when he first suggested sending troops to the city.
