Smoke from the heating and cooling system at South Fork Elementary School briefly forced everyone outside. Winston-Salem firefighters inspected the building, and students were able to return to their classrooms soon afterward.

A Wednesday morning fire disrupted operations at the Dixie Queen in Frayser, where firefighters battled accidental flames traced back to the restaurant’s HVAC unit. Officials say MFD determined the blaze was caused by a malfunction, and the flames were contained early in the day.
