Madera County officials have passed a resolution designating the county a “Second Amendment sanctuary,” a move that places the region at the center of the ongoing national gun control debate. The decision came on a Tuesday inside the Madera County Board chambers, reflecting local leaders’ stance on firearm laws.

Florida’s decades-old open-carry ban has been unanimously struck down by a three-judge appeals panel. At the heart of the case is Stanley Victor McDaniels, who calls himself a “patriot” and successfully challenged the longstanding legislation.
