A prominent department store chain has announced store closures, following similar moves by Macy’s and JCPenney. Operating 300 locations across 29 states, this latest decision underscores the changing face of mall-based shopping.

Starbucks is closing about 1% of its stores across North America, a move that includes laying off approximately 900 employees. Six of those stores are located in Philadelphia, where they will shut down this weekend under the company’s broader restructuring efforts.

Just eight months after emerging from a previous restructuring, Rite Aid Corp. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection once more. The new filing signals additional store closures, including locations in Western New York.
