For more than three decades, Witherbee’s annual fishing tournament at Roe Pond has drawn enthusiastic families. Children fifteen years and younger cast their lines, hoping for a fresh catch and the thrill of raising a trophy.

Youth anglers braved frigid temperatures on Feb. 21 at Heitkamp Pond to take part in the Neil Heitkamp Ice Fishing Derby, which saw its largest turnout to date. Organizers credit local donations and dedicated volunteers for the remarkable success of this long-standing community event, proving that a little cold can’t freeze true enthusiasm.
