Dog Found Paralyzed in Trash With 6 Broken Bones Looking for New Home

Left for dead with shattered bones, Zacky, a seven-month-old rescue dog, was given little chance of walking again. Thanks to intensive care and unyielding spirit, he’s now making an incredible recovery and searching for a forever home.

Key Takeaways:

  • Zacky was found abandoned in the trash with severe injuries, including five broken ribs and a fractured vertebra.
  • Despite low chances of recovery, he underwent spinal surgery and is now regaining mobility.
  • The Foundation of Animal Protection in Füzesabony (FAPF) is providing intensive physiotherapy and care.
  • Veterinarians are amazed by his rapid improvement, given the extent of his injuries.
  • The shelter is seeking donations for his medical bills and looking for a suitable adoptive home in Europe.

Abandoned and Broken

A seven-month-old pup named Zacky was found abandoned in a trash heap in Hungary, his tiny body bearing the marks of severe abuse. “He was unable to walk and his injuries weren’t new,” a spokesperson for the Foundation of Animal Protection in Füzesabony (FAPF) recounted. Discovered in a local backyard, his five broken ribs and fractured vertebra suggested a brutal assault, possibly from being kicked and beaten.

A Slim Chance at Recovery

Rushed to the hospital, veterinarians gave Zacky little hope of ever walking again. “He was given a low chance of learning to walk but he is only 7 months old so we decided we wanted to give him a chance,” the FAPF spokesperson explained. Zacky underwent spinal surgery, receiving an implant to stabilize his spine despite the uncertainty surrounding his recovery.

Defying the Odds

Post-surgery, Zacky’s prospects remained bleak. He had lost all feeling in his back legs and required a catheter to urinate. Yet, under the dedicated care of FAPF, his progress has been nothing short of miraculous. “Today he is able to pee and poo on his own, he has good reflexes in both legs and can even keep himself standing up for a few seconds without help,” shared the spokesperson.

Intensive Rehabilitation

Zacky’s rehabilitation includes physiotherapy sessions three times a week at a specialized facility. There, he receives massages, laser therapy, and treatments on a magnetic mat to aid his recuperation. “At home, he gets massages, manual therapy, and standing exercises three times a day,” the shelter representative added. The goal is to prepare him for hydrotherapy to further enhance his mobility.

A Spirit Unbroken

Despite his ordeal, Zacky’s spirit remains undiminished. “He is so eager to work and gain strength and all the doctors and physios are amazed by his fast improvement and good spirits,” the FAPF spokesperson noted. Zacky has developed a fondness for cuddles, enjoys playing with toys, and gets along well with other dogs. “He recently learned to play with toys, which is so sweet.”

Seeking a Forever Home

As Zacky awaits his next spinal surgery to remove his implant in three weeks, the FAPF is actively seeking applications for his adoption. Potential adopters must be located in Europe and understand the extensive care he requires. “We can’t wait to see what else he will do,” the shelter representative expressed, hopeful for his continued progress.

An Appeal for Support

The FAPF is pleading for donations to cover the mounting medical bills for Zacky and other animals rescued from neglect and abuse. “We believe every life is worth it, and sometimes certain animals take a little extra effort (and a lot of extra money) but we do not want to give up on them,” the spokesperson affirmed.
